The story
We started making this bar because the soap sold in the valley dried our hands raw through winter. Goat milk is the answer our grandmothers already knew: the fat and lactic acid in it leave the skin's own barrier intact instead of scouring it off.
The turmeric is Curcuma aromatica, the wild kind that grows on the slopes above Heul, not the culinary variety. We harvest it in October, dry it in shade so the oils survive, and grind it into the batch by hand.
Every bar is cold-processed and then left to cure for four full weeks on open wooden racks. Curing is the step most makers skip because it costs time and shelf space, and it is exactly why this bar lasts twice as long in the dish as a supermarket one.
Because nothing here is standardised, no two batches match exactly. A wetter monsoon gives a deeper ochre. We do not correct it with dye.

The ritual

Wet the bar
Warm water, not hot. Hot water strips the very oils this bar is built to leave behind.

Work a lather
Between your palms or on a cloth. The lather is deliberately low; that is the goat milk, not a fault.

Take your time
Let it sit on the skin for a few seconds before rinsing so the turmeric can do something.

Dry the bar
Stand it on a draining dish. A bar left in water will not last, however well it was cured.
Questions
What exactly am I getting?
This one is 100 g, 12 months from the day it is made, and it is dry and sensitive skin. Every batch is prepared by hand in Heul Valley.
Is it really made from farm-grown ingredients?
Yes. The herbs, turmeric and milk come from our own farms and neighbouring households in Heul Valley. We buy nothing from commodity wholesalers, which is also why our batches are small and occasionally sell out.
Will it suit sensitive skin?
There is no synthetic fragrance, no sulphate and no paraben in anything we make, which is what usually causes trouble. That said, botanicals are still active ingredients, so patch-test on your inner arm and wait a day before you use anything new on your face.
Why does the colour or smell vary between orders?
Because the harvest varies. Turmeric grown in a wetter year is a deeper ochre, and the honey changes with whatever is flowering. We do not correct any of it with dye or fragrance, so a little variation between batches is the honest result.
How long does delivery take?
Orders leave our workshop within two working days. Metros usually receive in three to five days, the rest of India in five to eight. Everything ships plastic-free, so nothing arrives wrapped in what we spent years keeping out of our products.
Can I return it?
Unopened items can come back within fourteen days for a full refund. If something arrives damaged or turns out faulty, write to us with a photograph and we will replace it, opened or not.
